Biodiversity and Nature Conservation Association (BANCA) is a registered non-profit, non-governmental organization.

Mission statement

Conservation of nature, primarily biological diversity (genes, species, ecosystems) through actions based on surveys & research, advocacy, partnership, network building, environmental education & public awareness, people’s participation, encouragement of stakeholder concept and improvement of rural livelihoods

Expertise

BANCA is one of the major organizations active in Myanmar in the field of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

BANCA has divers expertise such as: conservation biologists, ornithologists, wildlife ecologists, foresters, botanists, marine and freshwater biologists, environmental education specialists, environmental oriented engineers and medical doctors, experts on integration of community development and environment conservation, mammal experts, GIS experts, orchid experts, socioeconomic experts, herpetologists, soil experts, lecturers and professors of many universities and colleges.

BANCA has managed donor-funded conservation projects in collaboration with relevant and reliable international organizations.

BANCA is partner of Bird Life International in implementing the project Building Constituencies for Site Based Conservation in Myanmar, aimed at identifying networks of Important Bird Areas in the Eastern Himalayas Endemic Bird Area and the Sundaic Lowlands Secondary Area and promote community based approaches to the conservation of selected sites.
